Financial means for Spanish immigration in 2026: how much each procedure requires
Almost everything Spanish immigration law asks for in money is measured against two figures: the IPREM (the public income benchmark), which has stayed at €600 a month since 2023, and the minimum wage, which in 2026 is €1,221. How much each procedure requires this year, with the article that sets it, and where the calculation usually goes wrong.
Updated on 14 October 2026

Spain's immigration regulations (Real Decreto 1155/2024) do not set amounts in euros, but percentages of a benchmark: the IPREM (public income indicator) for family reunification, non-lucrative residence, studies and arraigo social (residence through social ties); the salario mínimo interprofesional (SMI) (national minimum wage) for arraigo sociolaboral (residence through work ties), employers, international remote work and entry as a tourist. Using the wrong benchmark or the wrong number of months leaves the application short and ends, at best, in a requerimiento (request for documents).
€600
monthly IPREM in 2026, unchanged since 2023
€1,221
monthly SMI in 2026, in 14 payments
€900
a month to bring one family member
€2,400
a month for non-lucrative residence, for the whole validity period
Procedures measured against the IPREM
| Procedure | How much in 2026 | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Family reunification | €900 a month for two people and €300 more per additional member | 150% and 50% of the IPREM (art. 67.1) |
| Non-lucrative residence (residencia no lucrativa) | €2,400 a month and €600 more per family member, for the whole validity period | 400% and 100% of the IPREM (art. 62) |
| Stay for studies | €600 a month, €450 more for the first family member and €300 for each of the others | 100%, 75% and 50% of the IPREM (art. 35.h) |
| Arraigo social with resident family members | €1,200 a month in total, available in Spain: €600 for the resident family member and €600 for the person applying for arraigo | At least 100% of the IPREM (art. 127.c); 100% + 100% according to Hoja informativa 28 (official information sheet) |
| EU long-term residence (residencia de larga duración-UE) | The family reunification figures | Same terms (art. 176.b) |
Your exact figure, in the financial means calculator. IPREM for 2026: €600 a month and €7,200 a year (2023 State Budget, extended; SEPE). Without resident family members, arraigo social requires an integration report (informe de integración) and, according to the Ministry's instructions (SEM 1/2025), also means of at least 100% of the IPREM.
Procedures measured against the minimum wage
| Procedure | How much in 2026 | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Arraigo sociolaboral | From 20 hours a week; with 20, at least €610.50 a month | SMI or collective agreement, in proportion to working hours (art. 127.b) |
| Initial employed work (cuenta ajena), part-time | €17,094 over the year | Full-time SMI, on an annual basis (art. 74.1.c) |
| Employer who is a private individual | On top of the salary: €610.50 a month with no dependent family, €1,221 if there are two and €305.25 more per member | 50%, 100% and 25% of the SMI (art. 76.2) |
| International remote work (digital nomad) | €2,442 a month, €915.75 more for the first family member and €305.25 for each of the others | 200%, 75% and 25% of the SMI, according to the consulates |
| Entry as a tourist | €122.10 per person per day; €1,098.90 as a minimum | 10% and 90% of the SMI (Orden PRE/1282/2007) |
SMI for 2026: €1,221 a month in 14 payments and €17,094 a year (Real Decreto 126/2026). Remote work: SMI table of the Spanish Embassy in Hanoi.
Two warnings. The SMI is paid in fourteen payments: a salary paid in twelve is compared on an annual basis. And for entry, the Ministry of the Interior states €121.10 a day, but 10% of the 2026 SMI is €122.10, the consular figure: better to carry the higher one.
Family reunification: it grows with the family and can go down with minors
The general rule for family reunification (reagrupación familiar) is 150% of the IPREM for two people and 50% more for each additional member: €900 a month for two, €1,200 for three, €1,500 for four. What counts: gross income including extra payments, pensions, savings and assets by their average balance over six months, and what the spouse and first-degree relatives living in the same home earn. What does not count: study or housing grants, maintenance payments (pensiones de alimentos) or social assistance (art. 67.1).
With minor children, the figure can go down if the child's best interests call for it: for a family of two, with one minor, 110% of the annual guaranteed income of the Ingreso Mínimo Vital (minimum living income), and 10% more for each additional minor (art. 67.1). You have to ask for it and justify it. Hoja informativa 8 adds that, with minors, a stable source of income equal to or above the SMI is enough.
| Family | General rule | With the reduction for minors |
|---|---|---|
| Mother or father with 1 child | €10,800 | €9,683.52 |
| Mother or father with 2 children | €14,400 | €10,563.84 |
| Mother or father with 3 children | €18,000 | €11,444.16 |
The Reglamento does not say which guaranteed income is used; here, that of one person in 2026: €8,803.20 (Ley 19/2021, art. 13.2.a, with the non-contributory pension of Real Decreto-ley 3/2026). Using the figure for two people, the amount would be higher.
Non-lucrative residence: the money is multiplied by the months
It is the only procedure that requires the means for the whole validity period of the authorisation (art. 62.2). The initial one lasts one year (art. 61.4): €28,800, plus €7,200 per family member. The renewed one lasts two (art. 64.7): €57,600, plus €14,400 per family member. A regular income, such as a pension, of that monthly amount also counts.
| Who | First year | Renewal, two years |
|---|---|---|
| One person | €28,800 | €57,600 |
| A couple | €36,000 | €72,000 |
| A couple with one child | €43,200 | €86,400 |
With accounts abroad, the certificate must give the bank and its address, the accounts, their opening date, the balance at 31 December and the average balance for the year (art. 62.3). And to renew, you must have lived in Spain for more than 183 days of the year (art. 64.2.f).
Parents of a Spanish citizen: the non-contributory pension
The parents of a Spanish citizen, or of their spouse or partner, can live with them if they are dependent on them and have no family support in their own country (art. 94.1.e). The person supporting them must earn at least the annual non-contributory pension divided by twelve, €733.60 a month in 2026 for a family of two, or €953.68 if there are more, or have assets of €26,409.60 or €34,332.48 (art. 196.3.d). Transfers of at least 51% of their country's GDP per capita over the last year create a presumption of dependency (art. 196.3.c).
Since the Tribunal Supremo (Supreme Court) ruling of 8 July 2026, the dependency no longer has to have arisen in the country of origin: it counts even if the parents are already in Spain.
- Check which benchmark the procedure uses: IPREM, SMI, IMV or non-contributory pension.
- Count the whole family unit, including the sponsor (the person bringing the family).
- For non-lucrative residence, multiply by 12 months for the initial authorisation and by 24 for the renewal.
- Recalculate when the IPREM or the SMI changes: the one in force when you file is what counts.
