What the 790-012 is and who charges it

It is the fee of the Dirección General de la Policía (Directorate-General of the Police) for the immigration procedures handled by the Policía Nacional. Its official name is «Reconocimientos, Autorizaciones y Concursos» (recognitions, authorisations and competitions), but every box in its generator is an immigration one.

It is created by the Ley de Extranjería (Spain's Immigration Act), which charges for processing authorisations and identity documents, such as extensions of stay or foreigner identity cards (LO 4/2000, art. 44.2). Its amounts are set by a ministerial order (art. 48.1): the Orden PJC/617/2025, in force since 16 June 2025.

It is paid by the person for whom the document is processed (Orden PJC/617/2025, art. 3.1) and it is an autoliquidación, a self-assessed fee (RD 1155/2024, DA 12.ª). The Police Sede Electrónica asks for it in these procedures, among others:

• EU citizen registration certificate (EX-18), card for a family member of an EU citizen (EX-19) and extension of a short stay (EX-29).

790-012 amounts in 2026

These are the amounts in the annex to Orden PJC/617/2025 and the ones the generator calculates today. The order updates them in line with the Budget Acts (art. 1.2); in 2026 the 2023 Budget was rolled over (Real Decreto-ley 3/2026) and the generator keeps the order's amounts.

How to fill in and download the 790-012

There is no blank PDF: the form comes out of the generator with your details, a receipt number (número de justificante) and a barcode. Each form covers a single box and the details of a single person: a family of three needs three forms.

How to pay the 790-012

The generator does not take payment: it only issues the form. The Sede says to pay at banks, savings banks and credit cooperatives, by presenting the form, even if you have no account there; in cash or by direct debit from the account whose IBAN you gave.

Like every modelo 790, it has one copy for the applicant, one for the Administration and one for the collaborating bank (entidad colaboradora) (Order of 4 June 1998, section 4). The bank gives you your copy with the NRC (full reference number), which proves payment (Orden PJC/617/2025, art. 2.2), and the Administration's copy, validated, is handed in at the office.

Common mistakes

• Ticking the wrong box. Each procedure has its own box and amount (see the table). If you paid too little, you make up the difference with a complementaria (supplementary payment); if you paid too much, the route is the refund of undue payments.
• Confusing it with the 052 or the 062. The 790-052 and the 790-062 are charged by the Delegaciones and Subdelegaciones del Gobierno (central government offices in each region and province) for residence and work authorisations. In an arraigo (residence through ties), the authorisation goes with the 052 (epígrafe, or heading, 2.3.1) and the TIE that follows, at the police station, with the 012.
• Details that differ from your passport or TIE. The form only checks that the field is not empty: check the number and name and, if there is a mistake, generate another form before paying.
• Going to the appointment without the paid receipt. The Sede lists it among the documents for the TIE, the NIE, certificates and the return authorisation. What proves payment is the form validated by the bank, with its NRC, not the PDF you have just downloaded.

For law firms: the 790-012 in Aproba

• The official generator, without retyping. From the case file (expediente) or the client record, Aproba opens the Police generator with the client's details filled in: NIE or passport, name, address and date. The gestor chooses the box (none is ticked by default) and types the security code shown by the Sede.
• The same checks as the official page before sending: mandatory fields, date, days or number of certificates. If the letter of a DNI or NIE does not match, it warns without blocking; if the Sede rejects the form, it shows its reasons word for word.
• The official PDF, untouched, with its barcode: Aproba shows the receipt number and saves it in the case file; in a family case, one fee per applicant.
• Editable copy, separate and on request: another PDF with editable personal details, with a warning that it is no longer the Sede's form; amount, receipt number and barcode do not change. If the official generator does not respond, it leaves the client's details ready to copy.
